1) Which animals did you combine to create your hybrid? Why did you pick these animals/mythical creatures, and which characteristics did you use from each animal?
I combined a bat and a bear. I picked them for their special characteristics like flight and strength. From the bat I used the wings and head. From the bear I used the body and the legs.
Symmetry is when something is exactly the same on both sides.
3) What functional purpose did gargoyles serve in gothic architecture? How did they help preserve the building?
Gargoyles were created to help preserve stone buildings from erosion. They worked as a gutter system for the buildings.
4) Explain the standard "VA.8.2.6 Design both additive and subtractive sculptures.". What does it mean, and how did you include both additive and subtractive techniques in your project?
The standard asks us to be able to use additive and subtractive techniques in the sculpture. This means you either have to add more clay to the body or carve off some clay. In my project I used additive to put on the head, wings, and feet. For subtractive I used it to carve out a spine, make a sudo-fur, and carve claws into the feet.
5) How could you improve your project? Give specific examples with solutions of how you would like to fix them.
I could have improved by reinforcing the limbs. I could have fixed that by putting some extra clay to make the wings stronger so they wouldn't break. For the leg I could have scored more on the leg and put more slip so it wouldn't have fallen off.
